He would also regularly meditate and study the dharma. Witnesses said repeatedly that the warrior "monks" practically do nothing or almost nothing like that.

GiDohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00037285400565881820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8854081221268705767.post-48001879953327226152015-08-28T05:09:10.205-05:002015-08-28T05:09:10.205-05:00Wow great articles on this confusion. This article immedaitely came to mind when I read KungfuTaichiMagazine recent article on "Should Warrior Monks Disrobe?". I believe it would help if people in the West educated themselves more on the subject. That will come with the fame of the temple.

I believe a lot of it has to do with the state of poverty in Henan province, as the poorest province in China. Zhengzhou has (or had) the highest AIDS rate in China, because many people sell their blood to eat, and there are also prostitution problems.

One thing they have is a temple world famous for martial arts. Of course they will cash in on it, although some may get carried away. So, at the same time I understand them, and must take compassion.

However, behind all of that there are still active lines of transmission- traditional monks who have followed an unbroken lineage of Chan.

Hopefully, this article can be a guideline to understanding the Shaolin monastic tradition and viewing the various personalities therein.

Shaolin often catches a bad rap for the actors you see, but that doesn't hurt the case for those who know the truth. The true tradition will continue to spread.

Thanks for your contribution here. Without this one cannot be considered "Buddhist", as they have yet to enter that gate.

The information in this article is based on the Buddhist tradition in Shaolin Monastery. I understand nowadays there is much confusion regarding the true practice.

However, one cannot become an "official" Buddhist as a member of the laity, much less a warrior monk, without taking refuge and receiving the Five Precepts as the bare minimum.

I hope this is clear.

Namo Amituofo.SCChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14704636644836362598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8854081221268705767.post-81394813980726255842009-01-04T18:04:00.000-06:002009-01-04T18:04:00.000-06:00Sad to tell it, but I have met two Shaolin wu-seng...Sad to tell it, but I have met two Shaolin wu-seng, who said that they did not even take the five precepts.fenghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12439295459898096305noreply@blogger.com
